The Most Delicious Frozen Pizzas, According to Foodies

1. DiGiorno

As the saying goes, “it’s not delivery, it’s DiGiorno!” Although not to be mistaken for a restaurant pie, this freezer favorite is guaranteed to satisfy in a pinch. While DiGiorno may not compete with a fresh-from-the-oven slice from a favorite pizza joint, Buzzfeed says it excels at what it does best. It’s fresh and fluffy, establishing its supremacy for a reason.

Restaurant Clicks hails DiGiorno as a veritable legend in the realm of frozen pizzas, making it an excellent choice for a quick pizza fix. While its flavors may be slightly milder than other options, the classic frozen pizza brand does not disappoint when enjoyed hot out of the oven.

But what makes DiGiorno stand out from the rest? Today says its pillowy crust that rises impressively is what takes the cake…or the pie, in this case. The cheese is also superior, resulting in “ooey-gooey mozzarella strands worthy of an Instagram Reel,” they write.

2. Newman’s Own

If your favorite pizza joint is famed for its delicious thin crust, Newman’s Own is what you’ll want to keep stocked in your freezer. Reviewers across the internet were wowed by the crunch and flavor of the brand’s popular thin crust pizzas. Delish recommends the brand for those desiring a thin and crispy pizza base. They also mention that the crispiness receives unanimous praise from tasters, who appreciated its substantial feel.

According to NY Times, Newman’s Own presents a slightly elevated version of the classic thin-crust style seen in brands like Tombstone and Red Baron. It tastes authentic, unlike other pies that you can tell are mass-produced by a machine.

While delicious, the best part of a Newman’s Own pizza is arguably not the taste but the good done with every purchase. Food Network applauds Newman’s Own for its quick and perfectly crisp crust. The pepperoni, made from real beef and pork without added nitrites, stands out with its generous portion on each slice. They mention that 100 percent of net profits are donated to charities and nonprofits.

3. Red Baron

A nostalgic favorite, Red Baron pizza might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of a delicious frozen pizza. But numerous reviewers agree that this slice is more than worth the price of admission. Today says this brand is all the evidence you need that you don’t need expensive ingredients to make something delicious. They also suggest adding a dash of Tabasco for a little extra spice.

Delish agrees on the nostalgia factor that comes with grabbing a slice of Red Baron. They say it reminds them of the pizza of school cafeterias and birthday parties. They also commend the ratio of sauce to cheese.

But just because it resembles school lunch pizza doesn’t mean it isn’t high quality. In fact, Buzzfeed goes as far as to say it is the closest to New York-style as they come. Now, that’s impressive!

4. Amy’s

Amy’s Pizza

For a healthier choice, opt for an Amy’s pizza made with organic ingredients and no GMOs. But while it claims some health benefits, it doesn’t taste like a compromise. Their Four Cheese Pizza features a “combination of mozzarella, Parmesan, Fontina, and provolone,” according to Bon Appetit. “It also contains honey, most likely as a substitute for some sugar in the sauce (although it also contains some sugar, so who knows?), and red wine vinegar.” Delish finds this pie the most flavorful across all the brands they tested due to the impressive cheese quality.

Restaurant Clicks does warn that it is on the smaller side compared to competitors in the freezer aisle. But it makes up for it in flavor! How? They say the crust is the perfect chewiness and the sauce is rich. Yum!

5. Tombstone

This pick is another that seems synonymous with pizza parties in elementary school. But believe it or not, this classic stands the test of time with great flavor at a great price. NY Times recommends this brand for the element of nostalgia that comes with it, paired with the inexpensive price point. “This pie screams sleepover pizza—delightful, if not wholesome—and does what it does well,” they add in their review.

While Tombstone offers the basic pepperoni and cheese pies, many reviewers say this is a pizza best enjoyed with plenty of toppings. For something loaded on the topping front, Today swears by their Supreme variety, which is loaded with pepperoni, peppers, olives, and sausage. What more could you ask for?

MSN says to try the Roadhouse Double Down Deluxe flavor. Why? They write: “This pizza is an obvious winner. The pie has a lot of flavors going on, but they all complement each other really well, plus the sauce is on point and the crust is just the right amount of crispy.”

Tree Tavern…never heard of it? Ask anyone in NJ.

    1. John says:

An awesome frozen pizza but not known outside the NY/NJ Metropolitan area.

    2. Marty says:

I agree. I grew up in NJ and that was the only frozen pizza we ever purchased. I was thrilled a few years ago when I found that Tree Tavern had found its way to a few stores near my current home in Delaware. Recently I went out of my way to store I don’t usually frequent just to buy a couple of Homerun Inn pizzas to try…the kindest thing I can say is that we were underwhelmed..

  2. Brian Downing says:

You must try a peps Drafthouse pizza they dont scrimp on anything even has enuff sauce also they have like 8 or 10 varieties plenty of toppings this pizza has weight it is really a good frozen pizza may be hard to find but im telling you its worth it

    1. Jackie Bradley says:

Peps is hands down the BWST frozen pizza, followed by Screaming Sicilian thin crust and Home Run Inn.

  3. Joe says:

Home Run Inn is the worst frozen pizza I have ever had. Chicagonians could find flavor if it hit them in the face.

    1. Gay Chiappetta says:

      You’re nuts

      1. Judy Lesar says:

These pizzas are high in calories and for me, over the limit of daily sodium. Front of box shows per 1/5 of pizza. I get California Pizza Kitchen Margherita and add lots of fresh veggie toppings. Plus, front cover shows 1/3 of pizza for counts.

    2. Ken says:

Real Chicagoans don’t eat frozen pizzas if we do it’s Connie’s ,Lou Malnati ,Home Run and most will be deep dish version. Only off brand regular crust is Screaming Sicilian that only in a emergency

  4. auramac says:

Amy’s pizza is pretty much the only decent pizza out there, let’s not kid ourselves.

    1. Jim says:

Ooops! There goes your credibility . . .

    2. auramac says:

Also, Amy’s cheese is mozzarella, not that fake four cheese combo, wrong graphic.

  5. LaustCawz says:

The two biggest problems with frozen pizzas are that 1. My favorite brands/varieties never seem to be available in my area & 2. Any toppings that are supposed to be made exclusively from beef &/or pork (sausage, pepperoni, etc.) are always made, at least in part, from chicken. Don’t get me wrong–I love chicken & it makes a fine pizza topping as it is, but if I want a beef or pork-based meat, chicken has no place being incorporated into it & the same goes for other inappropriate meats & it especially goes for soy products, which need to be phased out of everyday, general groceries, anyhow, as these are very unhealthy, especially for males.

  6. GreggTheEgg says:

How much did Digiorno pay you for this list? That “pizza” is absolute garbage. Don’t know a soul that eats this by choice.

  7. Jean Ludwig says:

How about Lozza Motzza pizza I think it is the best plenty of cheese and toppings

    1. Candice says:

That absolutely gets approval! My absolutely #1

    2. markB says:

I agree with Lozza Motzza, Jean.
We especially like the classic hamburger – very tasty and very basic.

    3. Lance D says:

Motzza is very good with plenty of variety. My favorite is the chicken Alfredo pizza. Coming from Chicago tho Homerun inn is superior. The butter crust and and their process. They bake it a little while then freeze it. You loose no toppings w this method pre bake. Genius!

  8. Pam says:

DiGiornos has definitely changed over the years or my taste buds have! Its a definite pass for me now. Screamin Sicilian gets my vote.

    1. Bryan says:

Connie’s Pizza also amazing. But home Run Inn is equally as good. I tend to buy one of each.

  9. Terrence J Dooley says:

Home Run Inn is my favorite…from the great town of Chicago!

    1. Gail says:

I agree! That’s the best frozen pizza ever! Homerun Inn is still in the original building! I can only find it at Publix.

      1. Lance D says:

Remember, this list is probably based off sales, so your only your most common pizzas will be on this list.

      2. RD says:

H.R.I. ALWAYS GOOD! BEST FROZEN THERE IS!

    2. Anthony Sanders says:

Homerun Inn hands down the best!!

    3. R.D. says:

      AMEN, BROTHER! FRESH/FROZEN, ALWAYS GOOD!

    4. Christopher Daniel says:

Wild Mike’s any variety is by far better than frozen brand thats well known.

    5. Raymond Dominick says:

Home Run frozen not in top 5, probably not top 10, and I hail from Chicago.

    6. Fran Kinnane says:

I have found frozen Home Run Inn pizzas, in various flavor combos, at our area Walmart, Kroger and Aldi in Mount Vernon, OH. Their Sausage and Mushroom has the most Mushroom flavor of any store bought pizza I have tasted and the rest are not bad either. They also
      have a thinner crispy crust.

  10. Jeff says:

If you can’t put real pepperoni on the pizza you are disqualified. Sorry DiGiorno’s. Not on my list of the best pies.

  11. Raymond Dominick says:

I here good things about Connies, but only available in 5 states.

  12. Bet says:

This person is an idiot. Jack’s hands down best frozen pizza. Anyone who post digiornos is in love with thick discussing crust. Thin is the way to go. Must be an idiot from Chicago who believes in deep crust garbage.

    1. Angie says:

I just had Jack’s yesterday and the day before. I could not wait to eat both pepperoni and sasuage, thin crust pizza’s. It tasted so good!

  13. Commonsense says:

Zuppardi’s frozen pizza is unquestionably the best frozen pizza made. There is no discussion. Whatever the price you find it online is worth it.

  14. Yirgach says:

    Know what you are eating:

DiGiorno Hand Tossed Four Cheese Pizza

  15. Slug says:

Chef Boy-ardee is by far the cream of the top!!

  16. Wart says:

How are you gonna say these are experts and not consult the Doughboys? They’re easily the most trustworthy when it comes to this stuff because they actually eat this kind of stuff regularly and rate/review it. Also, Tombstone is an easy Top 5 frozen pizza. Y’all don’t know what you’re missing.

    1. Margomania says:

100% Agree. Tombstone has been around forever and still tastes good in the toaster oven, just like the good ole days in the dive bar at 2am.
Why is it NOT on this list???!!!

  17. Kevin Duff says:

Acme makes a very good frozen pizza. Better than Digiorno.

  18. Rubel says:

I think Freschetta is better than DiGiorno.

    1. David says:

      Freschetta is bomb

  19. Chuck says:

This list is laughable. Home Run Inn a Chicago pizza is the real deal. I grew up eating this pizza before frozen pizza was a thing. Right from the restaurant. The frozen version is about as close as you can get to eating at the restaurant. All natural ingredients. No junk. Available at Safeway and Sprouts. BTW, not deep dish. Most pizza in Chicago is not.

    1. Heavenly Ham says:

      Good tip.

    2. Patricia Lynn Kelley says:

Thank you! Yes, Home Run Inn frozen pizza is the best I’ve ever tried. Beats Digorno pizza by 100%
I use to buy Digorno then I found Home Run Inn. Yummy!

      1. Snack Daddy says:

Didn’t that pizza have metal in them at onetime?

    3. Ken says:

I agree with Chucky Cheeze. This list of 5 pizza’s is a joke. Home Run Inn’s is better than most restraunt served pizzas. The gravy, sausage and sweet crust is amazing.

      Ken
      K

    4. Sandy says:

I agree they sell it at my Aldi in Live in New Jersey never seen it anywhere else

  20. Albert Schmaedick says:

Please research the best way to freeze a homemade pizza. Include recipes and how to store in my home freezer and how to avoid a soggy damp pizza when it is baked.
