The List

1. Marcus Brooks

Noted by ScreenRant as a “man who truly wants to do his part in making the world a better place,” Marcus Brooks is first on our list. The house baker in “The Bear,” Marcus, may not be as developed as other characters, but his kind and thoughtful nature makes him not only respected by viewers but also by other characters in the show. This leads him to especially earn the respect of highly accomplished chefs like Carmy.

TV Tea states that Marcus, played by Lionel Boyce, is a “light in the often hectic and angry kitchen world of “The Bear. He is also one of the most hardworking characters on the show, with talent to back it up. Throughout the series, Marcus catches the eye of one of the most skilled pastry chefs in Copenhagen, and even he finds himself impressed by Marcus’s dedication and skill. With his positive attitude and unwavering determination, Marcus proves that true talent and passion can shine through even in the toughest of environments.

Described by Looper as an all around great guy, Marcus shines whenever he is on screen from the core of his being. His infectious energy and genuine love for baking make him a fan favorite among viewers.

2. Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto

Carmy, the show’s lead, played by Jeremy Allen White, is up next. Described by ScreenRant as being able to stay humble despite his achievements, Carmy always treats everyone around him as an equal, or at least he tries. Even when he is at his worst, viewers are still able to root for him because of his charm and vulnerability. White’s portrayal of Carmy is nuanced and captivating, drawing viewers in with his raw emotion and complexity. Whether he is facing personal struggles or triumphs, Carmy remains a character that audiences can connect with and empathize with, making him a standout element of the show.

Collider points out how Carmy calls everyone at the sandwich shop “Chef, regardless of rank or position, showcasing his respectful attitude. This small detail adds another layer to his character, highlighting his humility and consideration for others. It’s these subtle nuances that make Carmy such a relatable and endearing character despite his flaws. As the show progresses, we continue to see him evolve and grow, making us even more invested in his journey.

CBR adds that behind Carmy’s “calm exterior,” there is a man who is “awkward and afraid.” Throughout the series, we see Carmy’s vulnerability and insecurities come to the surface. Despite his outward confidence, he struggles with self-doubt and fear, making him even more relatable to viewers. As we watch Carmy navigate the challenges and grow throughout the show, we can’t help but feel emotionally invested in him. No wonder he’s a favorite. The show wouldn’t be the same without him.

3. Sydney Adamu

Fan favorite Sydney Adamu is the next character to take up a spot on today’s list, and for good reason. Actress Ayo Edebiri not only walked away with a SAG Award for her work but a Golden Globe as well. Cinema Blend says Sydney does not take crap from anybody, which includes the show’s lead, Carmy, and the resident loveable jackass, Richie. Sydney instead recognizes her worth and forces everyone around her to do the same.

ScreenRant goes on to mention that Sydney also provides some much-needed comic relief on the show, with some of the show’s best quotes coming from her. She also manages to demonstrate “leadership skills, great passion, and a tender appreciation for those around her.” Sydney’s character arc on the show has been praised for its depth and complexity as she navigates the challenges of the culinary world while staying true to herself.

Collider describes Sydney as a person who has had a tough life, with the loss of her mother at a young age and her career setbacks forcing her to move back in with her father. However, she still manages to be a beacon in the chaos of “The Bear, and her character is certainly one that resonates with viewers. With her unwavering spirit and commitment to her craft, Sydney’s journey is one that audiences will eagerly follow as she continues to chase her dreams and overcome the obstacles in her path.

4. Richard “Richie” Jerimovich

Next up is Richie, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach. He admittedly may not be the most likable character in the series but certainly deserves mega points due to his character development. Described by Movie Web as being the character who has the hardest time adjusting to the changes around the sandwich shop, Richie’s journey throughout the series is one of growth and self-discovery. Despite his initial reluctance to embrace change, Richie eventually learns to adapt and even thrive in the new environment. His transformation from a stubborn and closed-off individual to a more open and understanding friend is truly inspiring, making him a standout character to watch.

While CBR says Richie is “crude, aggressive, and confrontational, he demands attention when he is on screen, and at the start, it’s for all the wrong reasons. However, underneath that tough exterior is a man who mourns his best friend and failed marriage while trying to find his place in a new and scary world. As the series progresses, Richie’s vulnerability and struggles are slowly revealed, endearing him to viewers who initially wrote him off as just another antagonist.

ScreenRant explains Richie’s journey in season two as he is sent to train at a different restaurant. There, he discovers a new love for serving and begins to find purpose and redemption in his workThrough his interactions with his colleagues and customers, Richie learns to let go of his past and embrace a brighter future. By the end of the season, viewers are rooting for Richie to succeed and find happiness, proving that sometimes, the most unlikely characters can have the most compelling and heartwarming stories.

5. Tina Marrero

Tina Marrero, played by Liza Colón-Zayas, is next on our list. Described by CBR as initially skeptical of the changes made when Carmy comes to town, she soon shows her “softer nature, going on to excel as a chef in her new environment. Seeing her journey in “The Bear is truly inspiring. With her determination and talent, Tina quickly becomes a valuable asset to the kitchen team. Her growth and development throughout the seasons demonstrate that change can lead to incredible opportunities for those willing to embrace it.

Her dedication to her craft is met with nothing but respect and support from her friends and colleagues, as Tina is sent to culinary school and given Carmy’s expensive chef’s knife, according to Collider. Her journey serves as a reminder that with the right mindset and attitude, anyone can achieve their dreams, no matter their age. Her determination to succeed and her unwavering commitment to her craft makes her a role model for aspiring chefs everywhere.

We Got This Covered describes Colón-Zayas as bringing the heart needed to balance the role. Though initially “painted as a bit of a stubborn villain due to her unwillingness to change, she reveals a softer side as the show progresses. Overall, Tina’s journey highlights the importance of perseverance, mentorship, and the transformative power of pursuing one’s passion.

6. Neil Fak

Portrayed as the “rough-around-the-edges best friend, according to Collider, Neil Fak is always there when you need him, always willing to fix anything and everything, and if he can’t, he will find someone who can. Neil is skillfully played by Matty Matheson, who is actually a real-life chef despite his non-culinary role on the show. His growth from season one to season two is also worth praising, as he will go to great lengths to support his friend Carmy.

Noted by ScreenRant as largely being a “comedic relief character, Fak is also responsible for some of the most “heart-warming moments of the show. His quips with Richie and his friendship with Sugar are a sense of happiness in a sometimes otherwise heavy story. Despite his humorous and carefree exterior, Fak proves time and time again that he is a true friend who will always have your back. His character adds depth and warmth to the show, making him a fan favorite among viewers.

Rising from being a quirky recurring character to “pivotal” in the second season, Matty Matheson’s portrayal of Fak may be very funny, but he is also “no joke” (Looper). Fak’s loyalty and unwavering support for his friends showcase his true character beneath the comedic facade. Viewers have come to love Fak not just for his humor but also for the genuine care and friendship he brings to the story, making him an integral part of the show’s success.

7. Ebraheim

Last on our list is the trusty and dedicated Ebraheim, or Ebra. Cinema Blend describes him as that employee who just “won’t stop talking. Ebra may always have something to say, but chances are, it’s something worth listening to. He puts his all into everything and is a valued member of the team who consistently goes above and beyond in his work. With Ebra’s calming attitude, he helps keep morale high even during the most challenging times.

Ebra truly provides the calm within the storm in comparison to the “often aggressive atmosphere of the kitchen, as described by We Got This Covered. He is one of the first to quickly come on board with Carmy’s new ways. Edwin Lee Gibson, the actor who portrays Ebra, does a great job of being a peaceful energy in a room with a lot of big personalities. His dedication to his work and his ability to remain level-headed under pressure overall make him a standout character on the show.

Movie Web states that Ebra shows multiple times throughout the series that he is proud of the work he has done under Carmy’s new management. Ebra’s loyalty to Carmy and his commitment to the success of the team make him a fan favorite among viewers. Overall, Edwin Lee Gibson’s performance as Ebra adds depth and heart to the show, making him an integral part of the ensemble cast and the last character to take up a spot in our ranks!
