Not a bad list. They are all somewhat legendary bands. But Beatles as #1, really? Why not just label your article as “another cliche list”? Nothing against The Beatles, but they didn’t do anything spectacular to earn that spot. There’s so many others that are overlooked. Ozzy & Black Sabbath creating heavy metal. The Doors with poetic (& somewhat psychedelic) rock. Jimi Hendrix & Eric Clapton who are both regarded as great guitar players. But keep marking for the bug band if you like.
The Beatles? Broke new ground but only lasted seven years. Their status has been totally overhyped. How can that compare to a band that has been filling stadia for over 60 years? Stones unrivalled at number one!

Ken who runs cool very good The Rolling Stones, John Lennon and Ken Classic Rock n Roll sites says in his great 2017 review of The Beatles first album Please Please Me, that they were different from any other bands and music artists before them because they wrote, sang and played their own songs and before them music groups had professional song writers writing songs for them.
He said John and Paul not only wrote great songs on Please Please Me, but that John and Paul were both great lead singers who couldn’t be beat at the time, and that they were on their way to becoming the greatest rock and roll band ever.
He also said that the album had rock and pop songs and that it starts with Paul’s I Saw Her Standing There which he calls pure rock and roll, and he said John’s vocal on Twist And Shout,(which John sang so great with a bad sore throat from a bad cold) was hard rock before any hard rock was being done.

Queen has done a lot of spectacular songs, while The Beatles and Rolling Stones did mostly mediocre songs. It’s quality vs quantity. Queen isn’t on my top bands list, but I can’t imagine any other band doing the epic songs for Highlander.
I’m not a particularly big fan of the Stones, and I think the Beatles were too pop to even be on this list, but to call their songwriting mediocre in comparison to Queen? You must be trolling, right? ????

The Beatles did something that had never been done and everybody copied they created a record that can’t be replicated on stage. Multi layered music. The greatest two bands that list more offshoots would be th yardbirds and buffalo springfield.
But it all comes down to taste, and you need to experience the music preferably when it was made
The Grateful Dead has had a much bigger impact on music than all of these bands combined… Musically, technically, and culturally.
And the pinnacle of Rock n roll is the live show and no one does it better than the good ol Grateful Dead. On any give weekend in most cities across America, there’s a GD cover band jamming away.
The Steal Your Face logo is the most recognizable and “What a long strange trip it’s been” is the most often quoted line from any song.
The GD also invented a lot of new technology through the drive to perfect the sounds of live music recording. They invented split mic technology and variable speed recording, things Floyd used to record Dark Side of Moon. The GD recorded Live Dead on 16 track before anyone else.
They created the Americana, and jamband genres.

any list without the Grateful Dead, Jefferson airplane and the rest of the San Francisco sound is incomplete. Having multiple hits shouldn’t be a standard, but rather fan support and spin off bands. Album sales are still strong regarding the dead, dead and Co, Jerry garcia band, Garcia- Grissom.
